Installation and Wallet Setup in Trezor Suite
Trezor Suite makes securing your cryptocurrency accessible and straightforward. This guide walks you through installation, wallet creation, and initial setup.
System Requirements
Trezor Suite runs on:
- Windows (7 and newer)
- macOS (10.12 and newer)
- Linux (most distributions)
- Web Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari)
Regardless of platform, you'll need a USB port to connect your Trezor hardware wallet.
Installation Methods
Desktop Application
- Visit the official Trezor website
- Download Trezor Suite for your operating system
- Install the application on your computer
- Launch Trezor Suite
Web Interface
- Open your browser and navigate to the Trezor Suite web app
- No installation required
- Access your wallet directly from the browser
The web version offers the same security and functionality as the desktop application, with encrypted private key handling performed by your Trezor hardware wallet.
Connecting Your Trezor Device
- Plug in your Trezor via USB
- Trezor Suite detects the device and checks for firmware updates
- Install any available firmware updates if prompted
- Verify authenticity: Trezor Suite confirms the device is a genuine Trezor product
The authenticity verification protects you from counterfeit devices. Only after this verification can you proceed with wallet setup.
Creating a New Wallet
Step 1: Initialize the Device
- Select "Create a new wallet" in Trezor Suite
- Your Trezor device generates your recovery phrase
Step 2: Set a PIN
- Enter a PIN code on the Trezor device
- This PIN protects your wallet if the device is physically stolen
- The PIN is only known to you and stored on the hardware wallet
Step 3: Backup Your Recovery Phrase
- Your Trezor generates a 24-word recovery phrase
- Write this phrase down on the provided backup card
- Store the written phrase in a secure location (safe, safety deposit box, etc.)
- Never share this phrase with anyone
Step 4: Verify Your Backup
- Trezor Suite asks you to re-enter random words from your recovery phrase
- This verification confirms you've written it down correctly
- It's impossible to recover funds without this phrase if your device is lost
Restoring an Existing Wallet
If you already have a Trezor or are recovering a wallet:
- Select "Restore a wallet" in Trezor Suite
- Enter your recovery phrase word by word on your Trezor device
- Set a new PIN for this device
- Your wallet is restored with all previous accounts and transaction history
Recovery phrases are universal—you can restore your wallet on any Trezor device using the same 24-word recovery phrase.
Post-Setup Steps
After creating or restoring your wallet:
- Update to the latest firmware: Ensures you have the latest security patches
- Verify your receive address: Generate a receiving address and confirm it matches on both Trezor Suite and your hardware wallet
- Start managing assets: You're now ready to receive, store, and manage cryptocurrency
- Enable advanced features: Optional Tor integration and privacy settings available in Settings
